Summary
The Indian government requires individuals who were allotted a Permanent Account Number, or PAN, on or before July first, two thousand seventeen, and are eligible to obtain an Aadhaar number to link the two. Failure to do so can result in a penalty of one thousand rupees and a PAN becoming inoperative, which can create hurdles in financial and tax-related transactions. Certain categories of individuals, including residents of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and Meghalaya, as well as non-residents and those aged eighty years or above, are exempt from this requirement.
