A parasite commonly linked to cats has been found in up to one in three people globally, and can cause vision loss in severe cases. The infection, known as toxoplasmosis, can be transmitted through everyday activities such as eating undercooked meat or coming into contact with cat faeces. Scientists are urging the World Health Organization to officially classify toxoplasmosis as a neglected tropical disease to help unlock more research funding and improve prevention strategies.
