Malaria continues to pose a major public health challenge, particularly for young children, with those under the age of five accounting for nearly seventy-six percent of global malaria deaths in two thousand twenty-three. Children are more susceptible to severe malaria because their immune systems are still developing, making them more vulnerable to severe complications. To prevent malaria, the World Health Organization advises applying insect repellent, sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, and removing standing water where mosquitoes breed.
